Wednesday the 31st of December
New Years, Aint it exciting?
Yeah it is, but if there is one thing you need to know about Exchange Students is that they are extremly bad at planning.
First I was invited to go on a boat at Sydney habour (Probs best view possible) with the Danish Exchange Stuent Jakob, I however had to Decline because I thought I was going to the gold coast.
Second, there was plans on going to go to the gold coast for New Years with my Host Family.
Third, Plans for Gold Coast for did not Work out since Ken had to Work. Fair Enough
To sydney we go right?
Yeah, wish it was that easy, the Exchange Group had trouble figuring if we wanted to do, and it changed like 4 times within the hour. Howeer it ended up with Macaquarie Chair. If you got a good spot you would get just in front of the Habrou rBridge and Sydney Opera House. Worst part about?
Hmm, how about getting up at 3 in the middle of the night to catch a train. It was already 22, so no time to Waste, TO BED I WENT!
Anyways, Next morning, the 31st. I caught the train at about 4 in the morning. But grumpy as expected. In Blaxland 50 minutes in my trainride, I met up with the crazy guy Doruk. He had recently won 800 Dollars at the Casino. However have also lost twice as much, other than that he also got a train ticket since he now couldnt afford train tickets.. Crazy guy. His plans for the evening was walking around sydney till Dawn and then take a train home. Me? I was staying with Livia from the other district, since I needed a place to crash right?
Anyways ended up in the waiting line, some people had already waited for 2 freaking days!
It was about 7, and as told before, I also had my Kangaroo hat which got in use later on. Because Oz sun is strong. So we went on, at 7 in the morning and waited till 10 where the gates would open.
At the time the opened I reckon we were about 12 People, where in the end we were nearly 18.
This makes me Wonder why i had to get up in the middle of the night if the other Exchange students came later anyways... Doruk and I were even the first from our district and the last came at about 16. Honestly in hindsight not entirely fair.
Anyways gates opened and we went for a quick walk for the best spot, which wasnt really the best spot, it ended up with a semi crowded area with all of opera house, except the top of it, because a palm tree was in the way. Also half of the harbour bridge, in fact a bit less was visible. So alright spot, considering it was free. However I reckon in hindsight, it would be worth 100-400 Dollars to pay for a good view.
Macquarie had plenty of food and drinks, as well as toilets (for gods sake I was waiting 21 hours total, no toilet would not have been fun, ask the new yorkers)
Hours went as well as Exchange students showing up, late. We also had visit from two other people, Connor, a guy that was close friend with Vicente (Which sadly left on the 2nd of December, because of school at home), he celebrated new years with us. As well as Pedro, from Italy, the Brother of Sara Checci from the Southern Sydney District, very nice guys.
Its worth mentioning that the crazy turkish guy had not slept all night, so it was not uncommon that day to find him sleeping under a tree somewhere. That day, a lot of walks were had, because waiting we got there at 10, and the first fireworks starts at 21, and the big one at 12.
Long day huh? But we still had fun doing so, so many people to talk to. However as our day passed it got more crowded, and we lost our claimed Space rapidly.
Anyways we passed our day with listening to eating and sort of dozing off.
Hours passed, and the first firework started. Yay right?
Problem, hell yeah! we realiseed the spot we had made it not visible to see any firework visible over the Opera house! Could all this waiting be for nothing? there are no other good spots? Its more crowded than ever. On one of our walks with Pieriick and Louis we saw another good spot, with no crowd at all, the only problem is that it was 300 meters away and only the harbour bridge was visible, now the question was, would be worth it? We didnt go, so we will never find out.
However looking for the spots we had lost even more area.
problems arose, we lost it to 3 german girls. 18, 18 and 21 year old.
They were all backpacking up from Eu to Aisa, To Aus, to America and then to Iceland, how cool is that!?! They were very cool, and liked to chat. I even asked them what their advice would be for travelling, they said "Do it alone", because then you are in charge, you can control where to go and what to do yourself. I will remember that.
The last 3 hours went surprisingly quick, and 3, 2 1, Happy New Years, the harbour bridge blew open with enourmous fireworks that would leave Denmark with a wide open.Beautiful, after 15 mins of explosions we all hugged and wished us all the best for the upcoming year!
Now this, experirence, was worth 21 hours to wait for sure, NeXT time i will just buy one of the nicer seats haha :)
We departed just outside of the Macaqurie split into Groups, those going home, and those going for a drink. Now, if you are Rotarian please stop reading, ok?

Of course I wanted to go with the bunch that went drinking, however, I am 17! I would turn 18 in 6 Days, but thats not today so for first, not old enough. For second, I only had 7% battery left on my phone, Wonder why? (maybe because i have been sitting on my hurting ass for 21 hours).
Also, I was not staying at my house, so I had no idea where it was, meaning, if i went with them I had no idea how to get home. I was invited to Billies place by Louis, but I had already made arrangements with Livia and I wouldnt bail out on her..
So I went home with Livia.
We were home at about 3, a bit later we fell asleep.
Now, I got another story about that night, but I leave that out for now, you dont know WHO reads this.
But dont worry, no hook up or anything, just a funny Little story thats worth sharing one day.
Happy New Years.
Also you Denmark, when I woke up the Next day, NY had just started in DK (10 hours difference)
